With its increasing popularity as a hobby, metal detecting clubs have sprung up throughout the world. There are many very active metal detecting clubs in the United States and Britain, but also in many other countries in the world. The best thing to do to find out about clubs in your region is to search the internet for local listings of clubs in your area or region.
If you are uncertain about the benefits of joining a club, let me assure you that it can be one of the best things you can do as a beginner in the new pursuit of metal detecting. Becoming a member of a club will give you access to the collective experience and wisdom of other metal detectorists who have been active in the hobby for a while. There is no doubt that experience is one of the greatest boons to metal detecting and to help you become a successful metal detectorist. Having the opportunity to engage and share ideas with experienced metal detectorists will help you learn techniques and tips much quicker than if you pursued the activity entirely on your own.
Clubs often organize hunts in areas rich with treasures and artifacts, doing all the difficult work such as arranging for permission to hunt in these areas and ensuring all the permits and legalities are in place from local authorities. This relieves you of an immense burden of doing all the background work and you can simply just arrive and join in the fun with your trusty metal detecting machine. You will benefit enormously from all the research that the club arranges beforehand and you’ll learn on the go from more experienced detectorists. You’ll also have the opportunity to see different machines in action and if you are in the market to buying a machine this will give you some insight into one that’s best suited for you.
At the same time, it’s a marvellous opportunity to be social and meet new friends who share your interest. After all, although metal detecting is a hobby that can be pursued by individuals, it is a far more enriching experience to share this with others who appreciate the finer nuances.
If there are no clubs in your immediate vicinity, then why not consider starting one? You could link up with a club further away and perhaps start out as a small branch of that club. Advertise on the internet and in local newspapers and perhaps you’ll be surprised at what may result.
To your Treasure hunting success.
